Main Quest, part 1:
You need to find (and read) a total of 5 journals in order to progress past the cabin. The five journals are located in: on a table to the right of the door as you first enter the foyer; directly ahead as you walk out of the kitchen; in the bedroom on the stand next to the bed; at the end of the rear hall (among a pile of bloody rags); on Georg's chest in the secret closet.
To gain entry into the secret closet, you have to "bump" into the concealed button next to the table on which Journal #4 rests, by walking through the pile of baskets.
Once you've found and read all 5 journals, you will then be able to activate the button on the right side of the fireplace to open the secret bookshelf door and exit the cabin into the cave.
The location of the Key to Georg's Chest (not required to progress, but hard to find):
On top the wall shelf in the first eating area of the house. Apparantly no one looks UP even slightly when running through houses/dungeons. All you have to do is jump on the low shelf and the key will be right in front of your face. Note that while you'll be able to "see" the key in front of you when you climb up, you may have to move your positioning somewhat so that the mouseover activation pops up. I will have to either move the shelf or the key or both to make it more easily clickable.
Again, if you haad a hard time with that, you will have a REALLY hard time later on... ^_^
There are 3 main areas in part 2. The woman you meet, Yllsa, stands outside what I call the outer catacombs. Next to that area is the catacombs proper. The third area is down the long flight of stairs, called the outer or upper sanctum, something like that, I haven't written the babe in a long time :p
The first two areas can be skipped completely -- not that I recommend that -- but they aren't part of the main quest. The third area is related to a "hidden" quest you pickup in the first area (see spoiler).
Here are basic walkthrus (spoilers) for all three quests. I'll list them separate so you don't accidentally spoil something you haven't encountered yet.
Main quest, part 2:
Go thru the first pull chain gate, which you immediately encounter upon entering this dungeon. Head left down the stairs. In the large hall, there is a secret tunnel in the back leading to an alcove on the left. To proceed in the quest you need to read the book there. Back in the lower area, there is a note on the floor that indicates there are three levers. These are three pull-handle animated levers. The first is on the wall nearby. The other two are in alcoves on the level above in that same big hall. Once all three are activated the gate by the note will open, allowing you to exit the dungeon. Note that until part 3 is released, this exit door sends you back outside, so be sure to save first if you don't want to trek all the way back.
Yllsa quest
After soaking to Yllsa, you get a key which unlocks the gate directly behind her. Head through this outer catacomb area and eventually you'll be led to a lever. This lever opens the "wolf" door outside the gate you first encounter. It is to the right, and the stairs leading to area 3 are to the left. The iron doors that you can see looking through the hole by that lever is the exit from the catacombs-proper. Apparently my attempt to confuse and trick people worked :p inside the catacombs is a network of hidden passages, or at least it appears that way: there are only 2 passages, but many walls that look like doors. Grab the book at the web's of the first long hall (sitting on a crypt shelf, NOT the 1st Era book. This advances the quest. Back up a bit and proceed down the next long hall. The entrance to the first passage is in the room with the crypt boss, as is the button to open it. The button for the next passage is in the sun-lit cave you encounter in that first passage. The next passage you'll then find open on the room next to where you first got the quest book.
Hidden quest
Fairly straight forward though probably a challenge for some to complete, to get this quest you have to take a document off Yllsa (one way or another, hint hint). You'll find this document is easiest to get (and won't fail Yllsa's quest) if you wait until after Yllsa's quest is done.
**Update: by popular demand, here is are are item locations:
Tooth: just inside the catacombs on the right as you walk in the door, resting on the crypt shelf.
Lyara's Prison: a purple stone on a table in the catacombs; you'll run into it on Yllsa's quest if you keep your eyes open.
Crown Jewel: in the large area outside the catacombs, on a table against a wall. This is the area you go through to get to the pull-handle that opens the catacombs door.
Yrgnthor's Sword: This item isn't in the area near/around Yllsa. This is in the area with the big skeleton that you go thru for the main quest. It's on a bench on the lower area in the back (below the secret area with the Lord's book).
Dragon Blood: Behind a second hidden door in the room you go through to get to the Pit. The button is on the floor behind the altar.
Thanks again :)
Just an fyi I did have to go light on the jump scares, because I haven't had a lot of people give particularly positive feedback. They are difficult to implement, but the payoff is pretty good when they work. I forgot about most of them and scared myself a few times while testing =P
I'm glad you got some use out of the sword. When doing item speccing like that, they give you the keys to the kingdom and I could have easily made a sword that one-shots everything in the game. Obviously that would get boring pretty quick :p
As far as the artifacts, and sorry for the early spoiler if you haven't found it yet, but (spoiler):
unfortunately this is one of those cases where it was taking so long to get Part 2 finished that the "reward" is sitting in your inventory. All of the artifacts had a fairly high gold value set in lieu of having anything particularly special happen at the end. That being said, you MIGHT want to hold off selling any of them, as a very easy trick I can do in scripting quests is to see if you have a particular item in your inventory. So don't count them out just yet :)
anyway, thanks again and glad you enjoy it :)
Well, not to give it away, but it IS a tooth, and where might you expect to find those? Also, you can assume that since it's a "special" tooth it should be fairly obvious.
Here's a more pointed spoiler, still without giving its location away completely:
if you were looking closely you'd have come across the tooth fairly "close" to the beginning
no idea if that helps but it can't hurt :p
