The joke works for Soldier because with his default helmet, his eyes are hidden. In fact, for quite a while since 2007 until they started adding hats and cosmetic items, "Soldier's eyes are hidden by his helmet" was a defining character design trait of his. The joke wouldn't be the same on any of the other classes.

it would work amazingly with engie tho, just another tiny pair of goggles under the normal ones or his eyes are under them
