Why build it again?

Why build it again?

Okay it may seem a little lazy to build the same ship again, but I don't care.
Apart from the shape it's a completely new build anyway, so basically a new ship.

Let me explain...

The old Revelation is (kind of) a crappy ship. Super large, super frail and can't
carry that many craft. I hate it when something is labeled as a carrier and has
a measly eight or twelve fighters or so on board. As if that would make a difference
on a theoretical virtual battlefield in a sci-fi video game. More is always more and
I wanted more.

I wanted the Revelation to be better than it was, pretty much from the moment I
uploaded it to the workshop. Countless times I thought about ways to make it
more durable, to make it carry more vehicles and to try and make it less laggy.
(I sorta kinda failed the last part :D)

Also some of the productive criticism that I received from the commenters was
very true but it just didn't fit into the boundaries of the games' physics at the time.
I am especially looking at you, gravity shields. Wanted those from the start, but they
were just too heavy.

A big improvement came with the day that atmospheric thrusters got more powerful.
(yes i know, that was a long time ago, but things needed to be tested thoroughly)

With the help of more powerful atmo thrusters and a rearrangement of the whole tilting
mechanism, I was able to get a much more powerful ship. Best of all, the space needed
for the thrusters stayed the same. Thus I was able to use the existing shape of the
Revelation without changing it much.

Now I know you might be thinking: "wtf was he testing the last three years?!?!?!".
To that I can only tell you, that my gigantomania might have gotten the better of me for
a large portion of that time.
Not only did I want to build a new Revelation, but I also wanted to do it at a scale that
was not very practical for the game. (I wanted to have a 100mil kg ship, but alas...)
Maybe that was also the reason why my game temporarily decided to lock up my PC after
a few minutes of game time. That contributed to the whole delay, but I digress...

It was only recently, that I decided to scale down and instead keep the old size of the
Revelation, because let's face it, it's already large enough. But I still wanted the new
ship to carry more stuff, so I had to get creative.

The new ship uses it's interior space much more efficiently. No longer has it bulky
double walls made from interior wall blocks. It now uses single light armor blocks in
most places and even half blocks in some places to keep the sleek silhouette and to save
on weight.

Also gone are the days where every ship type had it's own hangar. Now, the corvettes share
two large hangar spaces with the fighters, which are also much more tightly packed.
The stupid ramp in the vehicle bay made way for a vehicle lift. The staircases are
also not as wide, there are fewer of them, less airlocks and the list continues...

All this saving on weight and saving on space means that the new ship is much more
capable in pretty much every area.

The only major weakness I didn't address is the big negative space in the center, because
that is my design choice so, yeah.
To be fair, without it, it would be an even better ship, because I could make it much shorter
to help it turn and all the ships would still be able to exit the hangar at the front, but
I think a "snub nosed" Revelation would look too stubby and that the long thin silhouette
is rather elegant.

P.S.
I still want my 100mil+ kg ship, game! :c

I think thats it.
