will Papal states ever appear?
I began playing in the year 550. No papal state at that time i get. But im now at 950 and byzantine empire owns all of Italy and pretty much whole Mediterranean. But i my plan when i started this was to build a strong Poland in time to defend against the spread of Christianity especially standing up to the pope. So will the Papal state even get formed? will it hold as much power as the vanilla game?

There are no special mechanics to make it appear, so it is unlikely.

the pope is head of catholicism right? so once catholicism appears, catholic nations can sacrifice provinces to his holiness for brownie points

Yes, Paypal state appears in the game. In my games, most of the times. Even before the great Schism. If Catholic is not enabled (before the great schism) spawns via rebels as Monastic Order for Chacedonianism.

Keep in mind the game always follows the alphabetic order to spawn the tags via rebels. So before the Urbinese; comes the Paypal state for an umbrian culture tag. They may not get Rome as a capital and its more likely that they survive for only couple of years if they're not Catholic.

But...

You could've prevented ''jew on a stick religion'' spreading all across EU. Now that you're asking for Paypal state it seems that you've failed.
