I have this problem too, can't tell why and how to fix

Are you trying to load the save and it just freezes? if so you have to wait, for me loading a save game takes like 2 minutes for it to fully load but my game scenario is 1900 so maybe that is the reason but if you haven't try sitting there for like 2 minutes or more it should load eventually.

how many hours does it take for a save to load?

for me it takes like only 30 seconds to load it but when i am in the game and presses the green play button it crashes completely

so this is my work around for loading games hopefully someone still comes to check this out

If i am not going to load a specific save and just hit continue i do this then walk away for a few minutes or alt-tab it has loaded for me 100% of the time.
If i want to load a specific save then i load into a NEW GAME and then from that new game i select the save i want. It then loads in a few minutes
If in any of this you click multiple times IT WILL CRASH so sit on your hands or alt-tab go grab a soda or something while you wait patiently.
If you follow this advice i guarantee it will work
