Survival... Impossible

Boulders on the starting plateau
It's been mentioned a few times people can't find boulders...

However, there's a Si/Mg/Co/Fe boulder within 1 km of where I've landed. There are 3 more Fe boulders, 3+ more Mg, 3+ more Si, and an underground Ni deposit (but close to the surface). This is all with voxel/garbage clean-up off.

As far as I understand, we're all starting with the same save game, in the burning survival pod, with all the ores and boulders already generated, trading stations placed, the works.

... In other words, there is plenty to start a small tower war with ASSERT regarding ((massive spoiler removed)) - just what I have done in the last week, so far having mined just ~2.5 worth of Fe boulders (out of 4 known)...

I'm curious just what's going on here. Considering Splitsie has a channel to show progress, perhaps we should start sharing save-games, too?

Screenshots, maps and strategies?..

Either I was incredibly unlucky or there is some difference. I spawned within 50m of a huge underground silicone deposit . As I mentioned got my pod up on wheels and drove it around finding plenty of nickel and silicone. I think I did do a pretty good search as getting off the platue was a daunting prospect.

However I have now discovered the boulders are sometimes changing between loads so I need to check the cleanup settings mentioned.

Even now with my new lake location plenty of iron, cobalt, silicone, nickel boulders but even after driving 10km out I'm yet to find Mg. My bad luck is becoming a big issue as I just had my first Sparrow :)

OK, I'm standing beside the dropped stone from the mining I did 25km from home, out in the Desert zone. Had mined a Mg boulder to fill a med cargo but its now gone and a Iron one has replaced it, however there was 3 extra Mg boulders 100m from it that was not there earlier. I've got voxel clean-up completely disabled....

So there seems to be some sort of reloading going on between sessions/saves.

That is seriously weird. :/

For others that may be running into this, the procedure for checking the voxel clean-up settings - ALT+F10, "Trash removal" in the first drop-down, "Voxels" in the second, the button at the bottom should say "Enable" (meaning it's currently suspended). Not sure what "Submit changes" does in a single-player, offline game.

But in your case, I can only guess there's some corruption with the asteroid objects in the save, but chances of that seem slim. JIC, these are stored separately, with names like "P(planet)S(??)A(G(type)M(area)__num)-uid.vx2".

I too have had boulders change composition on a few occasions. It seemed to happen if I went back to a save file from prior to identifying the ore type in the boulder. As if the game was randomly assigning the ore type to the boulder once I had detected it for the first time.

The 2 mountain deposits below may be of interest to anyone on the platue. I made it back at one point with a drone and large grid detector finding one Mg Boulder.
Boulders however were changing between loads regularly even after being mined so never went back as it was difficult terrain at limits of my thrusters/range.

I've now made it to the moon and solved my ongoing magnesium issues.

Don't think any of these are duplicates....

Ah, yes, reloading saves could be an issue. It could be that the save game seed only determines the location of boulders, and the composition is "locked in" when the boulder is deformed.

@privatteer, that's some serious stuff! It should definitely help those who want a quick start. I'll try to remember and check the locations if I'm back at the starting plateau.

I only found a silicon deposit near the landing zone on the platform.

@keyspace was your nickel deposit on the plateau or farther away? I'm not airborne yet and I haven't found a way of it with wheels.
keyspace 2020 年 6 月 30 日 上午 7:47
@Lord Helmchen It was on the plateau, reachable by wheel and detectable by small-grid detector.

@keyspace Thanks, mate. I happened to find it by chance earlier, but thanks anyway!

Ores changing type - I found an Mg rock near to an iron rock, took some iron then went to the Mg one, my ore detector stopped detecting ores for some reason so I reloaded, now I have 2 iron rocks instead O.o Not sure why the ore detector stopped but seems like all I have to do is jump out and switch to hand drill to break it. So have all my ores been reshuffled? that’s really annoying to deal with. But then again most of them have been silicone so far so maybe that’s actually helpful lol! I never need to mine silicone.
Privatteer 2020 年 7 月 17 日 上午 1:38
From what I can tell there seems to be a limited number of options for each group. So if a boulder changed on me I generally could find one in the surrounding area of the resource I am hunting for.
But yes it's a pain and has kept happening to me on the moon as well when hunting gold.
keyspace 2020 年 7 月 17 日 下午 12:52
Well, I've marked out every boulder in an area of about 50-100 km^2, without touching any. I'll post here if that starts happening, but so far, it hasn't, and it hard to believe it will.

I did look through the Omicron XML files; it seems what you're describing is from
VoxelMaterialChanges.sbc
. It declares the voxel types and probabilities of them being replaced on generation. (BTW, that's why all the boulder files are named "Iron".)

So it is no wonder that the ore types change on re-load. If boulder data has not been written to file, then the random type assignment would likely be performed again.

Is there a FIx for this issue because i havent found any Mg, in nearly 8 months of playtime. was thinking most of the time that its just super rare. but now i feel like it doesnt exist in my game. If some one has any suggestions or fixes or tests?

much appreciated.

thanks

Hi,

Ive been playing the survival impossible for quite some time, im having an issue finding Mg, i find all the base Ores, but the Mg has not popped up in any boulders i have found (quite a few boulders ive been through. Kinda makes life difficult to make ammo etc to defend my creations.

just wondering if its just me having that issue, if its even an "issue" or that Mg is just that hard to find.

thanks
