Guide on How to Search for your teammates
Keep having to search for your teammates on "MIA Survivor [#]" after they wander off?
Here's how to track them down easily!



What you'll need:
  • Survivor # (and save location: "C:\Users\<yourname>\Zomboid\Saves\...\")
  • Notepad ++
  • view coordinates mod



What to do:
  1. Open up Notepad ++ > ctrl+F > Find in Files > Directory: [save location] > Find what: [Survivor #] > Filters: *.* > Find All
  2. Look for the coordinates at Line 1 of SurvivorLoc (Will update if you're moving in game & manage to load the map part they're in)
  3. Go into your game & press J too see your coordinates > go to the found coordinates



You can also force teleport them to you
  1. Save/Write down your in-game coordinates
  2. Exit to main menu
  3. In notepad++, right-click the "Search Results" window > Open All
  4. Go to the SurvivorLoc X or Y
  5. Find your Survivor's # & their X or Y coordinates (Example: 4 6915)
  6. Type your X or Y > ctrl + S
  7. Repeat for the other coordinate
  8. Load the game

The survivor should load in near or at your location :D


Hope you find your npc! :D
Note that if their location is 000 or 0, you might have to restart the game or something...

I was able to locate a "LastSquareSaveX" and Y [within the Survivor# file]
But it doesn't have a number, it has a bunch of weird symbols after it.
I don't think my Notepad++ knows how to read them (nor does Visual Studio or plain old notepad)

Yeah this didn't work for me. Notepad++ (which I've used plenty for other reasons) came up with nothing when searching. Tried to investigate why and NUL NUL NUL NUL. Notepad++ can't read it so that's my cue to try using a hex editor that can but when I did that I couldn't get any coordinates either.

Also I'm not certain but I think the Show Kills mod interferes with the coordinate mod listed.

There is an option to see them on the map as well. I have used this several times to find survivors that have wandered from base randomly or after an attack.

Sometimes they will show up as 0, you'll see their name, but not the NPC, and they will be invisible and frozen in place. Restarting your game usually fixes this.
