First, I would suggest having a clear goal for the player, either directing them somewhere or saying in the description what they should do.
Second, add some props to build some atmosphere, such as wreck buildings, bodies, etc. These can also be used to make it so the player has to follow a certain path.
Third (this goes along with the second), given that this is horror add fog to so the player won't see everything that comes at them.
Last, use the map to your advantage. For example, in this map there's a cave system under one of the islands and could be used to set up a adventure such as escaping the caves or exploring them in search for treasure.
Well that's all the suggestions I got, I'm sure given the effort you can make a great map. One other thing, you might see my own saves and think that they suck, and you'd be right, my suggestions mostly come from maps that I've played in the past.
