Take wind turbines for example. They are animated, also their animation speed is based on the the atmosphere, so maybe track animation could be based on wheel's angular velocity or even just overall speed of the vehicle.
Wind turbines aren't tank tracks and developer-made stuff isn't the same as modder-made stuff, as their tools are different. How about you make them, and ones that are War Thunder levels of quality animation and detail?
There's been animated tank tracks in the past. The mods been removed in the last 5 years or so. I used to be subscribed to it. It takes a huge amount of back-end code and probably an entire code library worth of additional BS, but it's possible for somebody of *extreme skill*.
Don't take me as saying it's easy as others have done, nor that I'm *EXPECTING* it to be done (I don't really care. Tracks in SE seem kind of bleh). But to entirely say it can't be done and being a bit of a baby about making some overly dramatic show about it seems just-
Man, you know, I was gonna say, "You probably just shouldn't have replied." but that'd be the whistle telling the kettle to shut up.
Pick your battles, friend. Not everyone deserves a reply.
He never brought up war thunder level quality as far as I've seen? I don't know why you're bringing that up. Not to mention you're actually kind of not entirely correct. The devs of SE use a lot of the same tools mod makers use and the only difference between mod maker level tools and SE dev tools is that they have original source files for the game. That doesn't mean we /can't/ do it, just that we have to do it a different way. There's even some new mod libraries now for doing EXACTLY this thing. Somebody *LITERALLY* did what I was saying in my last comment. I'd be more than happy to link it too for you, if you'd like to update your mod here to have animated tracks.
And while I agree in principle that "Wind turbines aren't tank tracks-", both are considered block entities and that's all that matters. If it's of the same entity type, the principles behind them both can use these functions and features given the right specific code. (Again, I refer to the mod that has been recently made adding animated block functionality for easy block animations.)
I guess a lot can change in 3 years, huh?
