I think autoresolve is beyond broken atm
so i defended my home system with my main fleet after the enemy took the space above it. the invasion force came after and i thought playing this is wasting time. i autoresolve, half my fleet is dead and retreating. how do groundtroops in transports destroy half my main fleet?

They win with AI combat power, not guns.
It seems that if an AI assemble an attack force for your fleet, they ALWAYS win if autoresolved, at least that seems to be the case in Remake.

Some of the minor factions get powerful transport ships like Acclamators, so this might have been why autoresolve decided you lost the battle.
