I like to think that it's the same relation as the 9 worlds from Norse mythology. The backrooms represent Niflheimr, Valhalla represents the frontrooms, and what represents midgard are the midrooms. We escaped them long ago, their locations are lost to the sands of time, and the other 6 worlds are yet to be explored.

According to the official Backrooms Wiki (backrooms-wiki.wikidot.com) the frontrooms is just reality as we know it.
