If Peter is the one leading Russia they really should have a heavy navy focus. Although I get what you mean, the map really can't be played with all the civs. I've had somebody suggest moving Arabia's start, so maybe I should think more about balance?
I've already made the British Isles bigger than it should be... Cliffs of Dover aren't a very good wonder are they?
I'll have to check with my friend Mr Google Earth about Florida. Italy's shape/size has proven hard to get right on a map with this scale, and TBH I've been thinking of somehow changing it since the start.
A "new world" map, eh? Sounds rather fun. I might do that. Maybe.

If you want a world map scaled with balance in mind I think the Greatest Earth Map from Yet (not) Another Maps Pack is very good.
