Unique troops after starting player faction?
I recently started my own faction, but now I can't recruit unique troops anymore.

Is it that the player faction doesn't have any unique troops like certain other factions, or do I need to use completely different troops to turn them into unique troops?

You don't get any unique troops as a player faction. You'll need to stockpile them before you decide to form your own crew. There's a couple of lords who have the ability to capture unique troops though.
