the brakes.
In the episode "time of the angels", river song mentions that the tardis's grinding flight noise is brought about by leaving the brakes on. i am aware that flight noises can be deactivated through the options tab, but i feel this would be cool as a button located on the console as well.

but if the brakes weren't on then it wouldn't be the same TARDIS everyone loves :(
