I forgot the exact details but if your playing the 1918 scenario you have to take dunkirk i think by a certain time

Artillery. Lots of it. In the ww1 scenario, normal infantry units and guns have like 10 soft attack. That is why it seems like its impossible to breakthrough. Artillery gives so much soft attack compared to normal, that using a 7 inf/4 arty (26 width) will decimate enemy units. The only problem is producing enough artillery before the war starts. Also dont forget to build an airforce. Sorry for the late reply!

We use 1.4 soft attack, so yes soft attack values are higher and more important.

I won WW1 by 1916 as Germany by just standing in place and draining France's manpower, so unless you want to push since early war you can just focus on defense for a while and when they run out of mp just rush them with good enough divisions. My divisions were probably trash compared to the complicated ones I see here too, just filled it with infantry and arty support, recon and the entrenchment thingy.
