Nvm. One orientation of the remote control was eventually accepted by the script - that being the "reverse" orientation. - For whatever reason (both my cockpits point in the same and correct direction).
PAM is, of course, still *unusable* that way, since the remote control in the "reverse" orientation cannot be used for manually flying the ship, since the directions are all bogus (just up and down are correct; left/right, forwards/backwards are wrong) with this orientation.
