Misc or PDA?
BEFORE YOU SPOUT STUPIDITY
I'm getting tired of hearing people get pissed at everyone who is suggesting stats for this item because it's a misc. The people who are suggesting the stats are arguing if such an item were not being made into a misc, but rather a secondary or a PDA. So please, stop that and don't carry those redundant, talking-in-circles arguments here.

I'm here to weigh the actual pros and cons of either continuing to keep this item as a misc or going ahead and changing it to a PDA.

AS A MISC
It is always visible on the engineer's belt and would make for an entertaining addition to the game. However, obviously as a misc it has no stats.

AS A PDA
There would soon be open discussion as to what stats it would have. However, it wouldn't be displayed anywhere on the engineer's body unless he currently had it equipped, and let's be honest, how many people keep their PDA equipped for more than 3--hell, not even more than 1--seconds deciding what building they will be placing. The only entertaining value it would have then would be if we invented the engiecrab (Yeah, exactly like the spycrab only running around with his beep boy out while yelling voice commands as though he's playing a portable video game in the midst of battle.)

AS A SECONDARY
I don't exactly see how that would work. It certainly isn't a weapon and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be used as a lunchbox item. Mmm, metal, nom nom nom. Well heck I just gave myself an idea, possibly have it as a lunchbox item where eating it lets the engie gain a little bit of metal!

...No takers? Yeah, didn't think so. This wouldn't make sense as a secondary.

FINAL ARGUMENT
Though it would be nice to have a new PDA skin, this item has already been made for entertaining with its face animations. Therefore, it should probably remain as a misc. Have I missed any important details to this argument? Please feel free to respond.

Thanks, I'm getting pretty confused by why people want this item in particular to be a PDA. There are plenty of things that make sense as PDAs, like the Gamin' Texan or the PDA that goes with the Rayzar. This only really makes sense as a belt item.

Who says that a PDA cannot be always visible? I mean, so are many usable secondaries, like Jarate or the Buff Banner. So why not a PDA?

Frankly, This is an interesting argument you have here, but Buff Banner and Jarate were both original items that came with the game, not user-created. I'm not sure how limited people are in creating new items to define whether or not they can do this. You'd have to ask someone who makes items.

That's what I was thinking. If it were to be a PDA or Secondary, I would think it would be on his belt until he used it, then he should just pick it up and put it back when he is done.

I like that secondary idea, perhaps he could pick it up and play on it for 10 seconds, and regen 5 metal per second when playing it. (For a total of 50 each time he plays) He would not be able to move or stop, much like the heavy eating his sandvitch, so he would be open to a :spycon: killing him or sapping his stuff.

Lets face it, the engi could use a little love in the secondary and PDA slots, all he has for secondary is a pisol (or reskin) and a wrangler. And for PDA, well, just his PDA!

I really think my Secondary slot idea would be best for this, it has fair pros and cons to it, giving mobility and self defense for metal, so just think about it. Thanks! :D

Many other items in Team Fortress 2, such as the Chargin' Targe or the Splendid Screen, have Styles to change their look. Sometimes, though, Valve does something totally unexpected, and makes the Vaccinator as the first weapon with a Special-Fire option.

What if Valve were to make the Beep Boy the first item that can be worn in more than one slot, i.e. PDA and Misc?

-Equipped as only a Misc, it would rest in the Engineer's pocket but not be the PDA used to select buildings.
-Equipped as both Misc and PDA, the Beep Boy provides stats, rests in the Engineer's pocket, and slides into and out of the Engineer's hands.
-Equipped as only a PDA, the Beep Boy provides stats and appears in the user's hand when selecting buildings, but does not rest in the Engineer's pocket.
