Food > I don't think that Food is important at all for Riftborn and also, they still do have Food, for example it takes me 10 turns to get the next epistis pop with just the starting Food from Vanguard. If it's your first time on the mod, you'll realize Food has been greatly rebalanced to avoid situations where you just need to hit 300 food in early game and then never worry about it ever again.
Freezing > If you hover the tag you can see a better description for what they mean, in the case of Temperate it means most of the species in the galaxy would find the temperature adequate, in that sense the planets you mentionned would fall into the temperate (or medium hardship) category. Freezing planets would be more like worlds entirely covered in ice or lacking atmospheres. I didn't want to use terms like "extremely cold" so "freezing" is the best option I came up with after careful deliberation, and it mirrors the "burning" tag for extremely hot worlds.
about the Planet Tags, something I find strange and maybe a bit unbalanced for some factions, is the lack of Hot and Freezing planets. That might be a solid nerf to Horatio or Sophons ie. I'd suggest to have at least Artic back to Freezing and Deserts back to Hot. (yes it wouldn't be mirrored anymore :/ )
EDIT: actually the +4 approval trait is given to Snow instead of Arctic
