Should we place stations at system border or on planet
Since we are not able to place megastructures anywhere else other than system border OR on planets, I have settled for placement at system border for now, leave your feedback if you think this is good enough or you want to change placement rule to on planets

I prefer planets, for various reasons, the main of which being that it's much better sanctioned and more useful. But actually, why not both?

I'm afraid we can't have both, the game's placement rule is either place at system border or on planets, the only workaround is to make another set of the same megastructure.

That's what I meant (mirroring the megastructure set for planets).

Also, another interesting option: building "megastructures" around the star or maybe the planets too, and a decision on the central star to change state of all of the defense stations between slow, non-FTL ships without weapons and normal stationary stations - this way you can reposition them when needed and thus create whatever defense grid you want, even one similar to those in Marauders systems.

Well, I can certainly make a ship turn into other things, but I'm not so sure about turning other things into ships, I'll give it a try but it's no guaranteed outcome.

Again, Gigastructual Engineering turns things into ships quite often (attack moons, behemots, systemcraft)

What gigastructure did was just simply spawn a ship than delete things previously there, I haven't find a way to turn things into ship and still retain it's data.
