Is there anything relevant in your console? Perhaps a Lua error that occurs right around the time you attempt the load? A message stating that the wad couldn't be found? A message stating that the map couldn't be found in the wad?

According to the code, it will only print the message "Failed to load map" if the LoadMap function returns a nil value, and the only two cases where this occurs is if it can't find the wad or the map inside the wad. Any other failure would be a Lua error instead of the printed message.
