Title says it all. Pressing "e" to change props simply doesn't work

disabling add ons did not help whatsoever.

I even took it an extra step and straight up uninstalled all add ons excluding prop hunt itself.

I also reinstalled gmod on the off chance there was some left overs messing something up,

but regardless of anything I do, there is no way to change props from the default man.

any help would be greatly appreciated as looking the issue up online has yielded no helpful information at all.
