Well, it's not a perfect fix, but it's something...
So, PAD appears to be DOA, and will likely be for a good while, until either Finntastic comes back (if they come back) or someone creates a similar mod. Until then, we're basically dino-less. Yeah we can still spawn in the costumes, but the dinos themselves are out.

I did look around for things that might be a good replacement, and, while I didn't succeed in that, I did find these mods.

Upon finding these mods, I got an idea for a workaround for those who wanted a quick and dirty Play as Dino setup. It does require the use of console commands, so if you're not big on using that, I... got nothing for you, sorry.

1) Spawn into a game as a human. Boooo human. Don't worry, we'll deal with them in a bit.
Optional, but recommended: open console and type gcm to enable Creative Mode so your human form is not accosted by wildlife.
2) Spawn your dinosaur of choice, with an addendum of "|forcetame" added to the end, so that the creature doesn't immediately designate you as its first target of choice. If your critter doesn't spawn in your preferred gender, destroymytarget" will delete the spawned dinosaur from the game.
3) "gfi hg 1 0 0" will spawn a Dinosaur-painting brush, from the first mod. Use that to colorize your critter as needed.
4) Spawn in appropriate saddle pieces and hats and stuff, apply to critter.
5) Name your critter.
6) Hop onto critter, and in the console, enter "hideriders true". Your hideous human visage will disappear from view... until you log back in, but its something.

Congratulations, you now have your dinosaur avatar. It's... well, it's about as far from perfect as one can get, but if you're just looking for some simple way to roam about the landscapes looking cute/scary/InsertApplicableAdjectiveHere, it will at the very least get you that far.

Here's hoping Finn is okay and gets back to us soon.

finn told me that he no longer wishes to continue this mod. we received a screenshot from one of the developers a year ago that they were making an official ark play as dino gamemode, unfortunately its been so long to the point of announcing ark 2 yet there is still nothing about their "upcoming" gamemode. face it, ark itself is a dead game and whoever still likes to mess around in singleplayer as dinosaurs should probably just give up at this point and find different games that supports dinosaur gameplay like the isle for example

Awh... I'm glad Finn is okay at least. It'd been so long since we got word from him... it's a shame that he doesn't want to continue it. I hope we do get something in Ark 2.

Yea this mod's dead and they prob aren't gonna release primal survival with ARK 1. But they might in ARK 2 after they finish DLCs for it...

I MISS THIS MOD DEARLY AND I WOULD WANT IT TO LIVE ON SO THAT PEOPLE CAN ENJOY IT. PLEASE CONVINCE FINN TO HAND IT TO SOMEONE WHO CAN BUILD AND NURTURE IT BACK TO LIFE, OR AT LEAST MAKE IT OPEN SOURCE SO THAT US PROGRAMMERS CAN BUILD AND MAKE IT EVEN BETTER!

Primal Survival was quietly shelved years ago, and WC have since confirmed they will not be continuing work on it.

Got a source for that perchance? Not saying I don't believe you or anything, I'd love PS as I was far more hyped for it than I ever was the base game. But this is WildCard we're talking about, so I've learned from experience to keep my hopes very, very low...

Hmm, interesting. I do remember that tweet when it was initially announced, however I remember it having slightly different wording. It did say something about the titano fight, and controlling them, but not specifically about a PlayAsDino element (if I remember right).

Because of that I too was a little curious at the time whether they meant Primal, however going by the wording and the fact that shortly after when Gen2 released there was no Primal in it, I assumed it was just a reference to the RTS mode and Primal still wasn't a thing.

However I checked Jeremy's twitter page after seeing that vid, and the wording there does indeed mirror what the video says. And I think I'm right in saying (I don't have a twitter acc) that tweets can't be edited after publication, only deleted? If so it's strange that I remember the tweet being worded differently...perhaps I saw it in the news section of the Steam forums rather than directly from twitter itself, and there it was paraphrased rather than copied word for word, idk.

Either way, that tweet is indeed a surprise. I still maintain that this is WildCard, and therefore we should definitely not get our hopes up at all, as they have proven from past experience that they aren't the most reliable dev house out there. But I will also admit that the tweet does seem to leave little room for ambiguity, so barring another rollback like they did with PS originally, there does seem to be some potential for something in the works.

Thanks very much for that info, I appreciate your sharing^^ I guess all we can do is wait and hope then.
