I've not tried yet so not completely sure, but I think if you can't suceed in getting a coalition between the main parties then a new election would be called, allowing you to go down that route

but there are only two options and they are either the socialist coalition or the christian coalition

figured it out.
in both the coalitions (i dont think it matters which you did first) you have to basically side with one particular party
so for the socialist coalition i only did the ones which the SFIO wanted and on the christian one I only did the ones which the AF wanted.

WW2- Republic literally collapses within a few weeks of invasion
