if the classes were OP I am sure a lot of that wouldn't have happened. The necromancer can be more survivable then some of the others due to minions and build options, the warlock is most definitely one of the hardest challenges solo and is 98% finished, the paladin is a good 60-70% done and a work in progress but fully playable with all its skills.
The original classes have only had minor changes done to them to bring them more in line with synergies and fix some of their OP combinations (shotgun mastery blind stacking, ice shield recast immunity) and while I have a focus group forum up and running on improving the underwhelming parts of the original classes I haven't put enough time into it to for it to bear fruit yet.
The builds you use in synegies WILL be different then your original builds, there are more monsters, there are stronger monsters. You will die more often, a lot more if you play a glass cannon. You really need to diversify more in synergies then you use to.
good luck, hopefully TL2 MP syncs well for you guys. And if you go into the realm of discord, try to follow each others portals, if someone has to join you mid run, everyone go out and go back in together. Use the portals that drop not 'warp to friendly player' if possible. There is one unknown sync issue in MP with the geometry still..
personally I would recommend playing the game through from the start to killing the netherlord then going into Realm of Discord rather then going to NG+... the mod was built upon the idea of staying in NG. and the end game is most balanced for it.
enjoy.
