This means that if there is a no-riding zone with entrances at opossite ends and dismount spots by each entrance, they are riding to the dismounting spot that is closest to the job they are doing, often passing through the no ridding zone in order to get to it.
If the job is on the far side of a no-riding zone, they will ride through the zone instead of taking the adjacent ridable path. You may need to place a high movement calculation penaulty on the zone when a pawn is mounted, much like the Path Avoid mod, so that they try and move around it. This should also help with the dismount-spot issue.

edit: Asides from that, I tried reproducing the crash you had after you placed the no riding area, but couldn't. If you happen to get it again, please post the log here.
The problem of the pawn getting stuck is caused by a bug in Psychology. While I can't fix that, I did create a fix that makes sure animals will no longer wait to be mounted when their rider is in a mental state.
