1: Did you add "Override materials" before going to the Element viewer?
2: When you added the "String", Did you type "$Iris"? (Common problem here is that you type "$basetexture" or forget the "$"
3: Did you use the correct pathway?

when applying the texture it would turn the whole model into an error sign

Then you must have done something horribly wrong.
Check the front page for this workshop article and you will find a video
on how to do this!

When i try to apply the texture only the right eye is affected but stays as the default texture, and i am using hwm

i just simply put override materials, add the strings, and put in the file name, but didnt work

How do you write the partway to the file?
sounds like you got something wrong there.

exactly how the file path says like in your tutorial, i just copied the file path on the page

So you type in the following...
"models\n92\eyes\(texture name)"?

or something else?

So the last thing I will ask is the following.
How do you do "EXACTLY" do when you try to apply the skin?

So from the moment you load SFM and then load the model.
From there, what do you do step by step?

Put in the string $iris
Put the file path and name
