In order to find your game's client_log.txt file:

PC: Go to your documents folder at
Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogether\client_log.txt

Mac: Go to your documents folder at
~/Documents/Klei/DoNotStarveTogether/client_log.txt

Linux: Go to your Klei folder at
.klei/DoNotStarveTogether/client_log.txt

Due to recent circumstances with how a guy exploited io.open(), Klei decided to limit its usefulness. The mod will now crash whenever it tries to save its data to the mod folder; I think the way to go about this is to make an "unsafedata" folder and put the damage.json in there.
