personal opinion, either randy had it out for you or you just got unlucky

Both sides can be overpowered. Enemies can be, and your own colonists can be. Much more variability and chaos than vanilla, to be sure.

In my opinion it actually can make game bit easier, let's say, as sniper you are able to do easy hunt with skills, but they are not totally game changing.
As Visoth said, enemy pawn can be magic too so it potentially will make game much harder.
Personally I live this mod and I use it from very beginning.
