Possible Mod/Campaign bug
Decided to sit down and play around with the new skaven units on Mortal Empires, at around turn 20 or so, decided to attack the silver host, seiging their main capital with two full stacks of 20 units 2 armies. I built some siege towers and a battering ram. What happened next was very strange. Instead of the battle taking place at the castle, it instead however took place in an open field with the vampire castle in the background along with all of my siege equipment and troops on the map as well.

Also had another problem earlier in the day when I seiged a castle belonging to the lizardmen. This time the enemy had the power to meet me on the field of battle, their main army took the field with 3 units + their general. The lizardmens castle garrison also joined the fight HOWEVER, those units did not move at all, just the general and his three units of lizardmen. They just decided to charge my skaven army and they were hopelessly outmatched. Even after defeating their general and killing his three units, I expected to go and hunt down the remaining 1500 other lizardmen on the battle field. Nope they completely retreated.

I've never had this problem playing as any of the factions on Mortal Empires, up until now at least. Has anyone had similar experiences?

I think this is rare bug reported several time son official forums. Its wont be mod related cause we cant even change battle ai and its behavior, same as siege mechanic, map choosing etc.
