StormFox 2
Yes, I've started on making SF2.

I’ve noted that StormFox have become too complex as a single addon.

I’ve started on a complete rewrite called StormFox 2, that will be DLC based. It doesn’t have many features yet, but it seems more stable and reliable than StormFox atm. A lot of problems have been fixed and made some optimizations.

Do note that:
  • Addons for StormFox won't work with StormFox 2. A lot of functions have been renamed.
  • StormFox 2 will only have the basic features.
  • StormFox 2 will be more documented and supports better mod-interaktions.
  • StormFox 2 won't come out tomorrow, “These Things, They Take Time”. But I am nearing an alpha version.

Planned DLCs:
  • Snow texture pack; Additional snow textures for HL foliage.
  • SF SoundScape; A soundsystem that overwrites and controls the mapsounds.
  • Lamps and lights; Light-entities that react to weather and time.
  • Additional weathers; Adds a few funky weather-types.

Questions for you:
  • Should I release SF2 with basic day/night + weather? Or wait until all planned DLC’s are done?
  • Should I contact as many mod creators I can, before releasing SF2? SF1 addons won't work with SF2.

Hmm I think you should release SF2 because people will want it faster once they know about it or you can just do it your self till it's finished but I think you should also add rain to not breakable windows because people like me will just keep asking for the map like rn i want to know the map name

Sorry for dumb question but: Will it be just as SF1 with all DLCs installed? (ofc after lots of time in development).

SF2 is remade from scratch. A lot of new functions and stability.

It will offer a few new options.

I have an idea that might work out for you, why not release it to a small group of "Beta" testers for this mod, that way they can test it and find any bugs within and you squish em, and then release it? Although, it's all up to you though, personally i rather wait a month, or two to make it perfect, i don't like things to get get all buggy and glitchy when the creator uploads it too early.

I'd be rooting for ya Nak, i loved all your add-ons recently, it saddened me that SF1 is all screwy...for now, i will use Atmos weather add-on.

Options to disable night / day cycle in the future? Really only suggesting this for maps that are designed to only be a specific time of day.

Also just because I'd like to have the weather features of SF.

I've created dynamic sunset / sunrise time, but unsure what will happen if you make it day all the time. I'll keep it in mind.

It will be free. I am unsure if I should replace SF1 with SF2 and use the same workshopID. But we'll see.

Definitely need beta-test help in the future. I’ll release a beta SF2 git when it is ready. :P
Feeling a bit better with SF2 as it seems more stable.

I've also created a small script to document all functions in SF2. https://i.imgur.com/rYmJvGJ.png
This should help me dev SF2 faster and help the creators with the new functions.

I am glad to see progress is being made with Stormfox 2, will it also have the snowstorms, sandstorms, rainstorms, thunder, lava, radiation storms like SF1 had? If so, are you also going to incorporate even more storms in the near future once the base for SF2 is complete? Can't wait until it's done! I bet it'll be the most epic add-on you've ever made Nak. :cozyspaceengineersc::cozytf2mug:
