Rimatomics trader?
I call him, the game notifies me he's "nearby", but I can't find him on my colony tile, nor can I find them on the world map.... am I supposed to look somewhere else? Or am I just blind?

I understand that, but I've cleared a landing spot 20x20 and it never shows up. I even designated the spot for trader ships via zoning

like vanilla trade ships via the comms console, unless you got a mod that totally replaces all of that, in which case you're on your own
