Palpatine can't reside on ships, and also cant be upgraded.
I find it a little odd that you build the Eclipse as a standalone dreadnought, instead of an upgrade for Palpatine, yet Palpatine cant sit in the eclipse (Or any ship for that matter) in a space battle. He just sits in a dinky little shuttle, and is extremely vulnerable to being killed.

Why is this? Is it oversight or a feature?

There are AI issues for mixed ground and space heroes and so it was decided to split them.

You can get him into a ship if you don't use a pathfinder.

Yeah unfortunately it's a necessary thing. Otherwise, the AI will do something dumb like always have Palpatine on a planet so you never get to fight the Eclipse ever.

Maybe we should leave the Eclipse as is, as a separate ship, but give the Palpi the option to upgrade to the Eclipse II? Then we'd have the Eclipse as an opponent if the AI ​​were playing Dark Empire, and we'd also have the option to play with the Palpi as a ship.
