my mod is auto-generated by a script that mines fiveringsdb and puts together the deck template images and uses the data gathered to create datastructures for the lua scripts. it would be a bit difficult to adjust to using whole image templates.
the images the script obtains are all usually watermarked - same as used by FRDB - which i figured would be a good respect to pay FFG (not sure if they have expressed any concern in aiding spread of high dpi images, but i recall older cards would eventually be released w/o watermarks for LOTR and AGOT)?
also, my mod will be updated as soon as there are significant variations in FRDB data, so we might get out of sync quickly, and it might become annoying to maintain.
HOWEVER, if you sent me the individual scans named according to the FRDB id field in their api (a-fate-worse-than-death.jpg for example: http://lcg-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com/l5r/L5C06_98.jpg) either png or jpg is fine, the script can use "override" images for the ones supplied through FRDB.
