1) it's a really cool map
2) it's very large and good for many different kinds of multiplayer
3) many many Gmod based youtubers use it like dasboschitt, creator of gmod idiot box

It's an extremely old map, from 2007 or so. It was a very well made map for its time, thus it became popular and it still is.

Although the buildings have no detailed textures on their faces which makes them look like a bunch of cubes, the map is very complete and orderly. Many maps are laid out strangely and just don't make sense when you're walking around.
