if you have mods that change the background in systems this will need a patch to work
if you don't have any background mods or use a patch it still works though

which is before and which is after mod installation? None of the images say.

Until Paradox rebuilds how stars are created, this should continue to work, though it won't impact any new stars, like the Toxoid toxic star. But for what it's worth, when all your other stars have the uniformity offered by this mod, the 'haze' quality of the toxic star really shows.

Is it compatible with real space?

Looks like it still works on 3.4 at least on its own.
