Update v1.9 (19.08.2024):

All maps:
- Optimized geometry and lighting on all levels. This should result in better flow and overall smoother gameplay experience
- Fixed minor bugs
- Fixed one of the door models missing Null texture
- Slightly changed color correction
- Optimized texture sizes, reduced mod file size

Map 1
- Reworked skybox texture, fog and lighting, added 3d skybox
- Fixed a bug where water in the woods would flicker at certain view angles
Map 2
- Fixed an issue where blood and impact decals would not appear throughout the entire level
Map 3
- Reduced the number of entities in order to fix "no free edicts" error that could occur on some modded servers
Map 4
- Reduced the number of common infected that spawn at the end of the level
Map 5
- Removed a "jesus spot" between two tombs at the cemetery

Dark Wood is a L4D2 campaign featuring 5 full-length maps. It was designed with the inspiration of horror movies and games such as F.E.A.R, Resident Evil, Silent Hill and more.
It's recommended to enable the Game Instructor in your first playthrough. Also, bear in mind this campaign is not an easy ride – the chapters are very long and sometimes pretty dark.

The survivors find themselves trapped on a small stretch of road in the middle of the night. Pursued by the infected, they have no choice but to flee into the darkness of the surrounding forest. Ahead lies a long and dangerous journey through shadowy woods, eerie caves, abandoned industrial zones, a secret laboratory that must be destroyed, a deep underground prison, ancient catacombs, and, finally, their last battle in a church rising from a flooded cemetery.

Still an awesome campaign, I always had it in my mind as "that one crazy campaign with the Hell Nova Prospekt in the middle."

We now have the likes of Buried Deep and others that built on this style, but the best ones are still the ones that wear its inspirations on it's sleeve.

Took me three and a half hours to be it on advanced realism.

It's like the last chapter to Crash Course where it's a whole chapter, then it's the finale which is why crash course's finale sucks; but that's to EVERY CHAPTER is this custom campaign. Thank god, there we're directions or else I would never have finished this map (but there were barely any directions but more in chapter three). Double crescendo events for chapter four was a bitch. Plus, I know it's called dark wood but come man; LET THERE BE LIGHT, I CAN HARDLY SEE! This map literally feels like that one Nikocado Avocado image where he's crying while doing a mukbang in an aztec temple's catacombs, in a funny way at first but now I know exactly how Nikocado feels now. This map could've been great or good at the least, but I feel like too much was done to it.

The level design in this map honestly just sucks, every single area is a poorly lit maze filled with paths that lead in circles and dead ends that look like they lead somewhere important. It's so confusing that the map designer had to resort to putting arrows on the walls just so you can figure out where you're supposed to go.
