That being said, it is a save editor. So be careful, but I don't take any responsibility if it breaks your save. In fact I had my save mess up the production method of many buildings, but I don't know if that was the cause, as I was messing with many different things.
Yeah, as it turns out, that bug was flushed by just restarting the game. /shrug
From what I understand, part of the game start process involves scanning the all the combinations of advance categories and building the tree dynamically, then it saves it as part of the initial gamestate.
If someone discovers a method to do so I'll do my best to share. Otherwise, just assume the mod features (like the advance tree) are in flux until further notice. I generally refrain from outright removing anything that's already there, but new features (like unit or building unlocks) will probably require a new game.
Just ran a test on a clean game (no other mods) and it appeared to work correctly. Are you running any other mods that might interfere with the vanilla Varangian unit? This mod uses REPLACE: to add the upgrade path, so any mod that after it that alters the same unit will override the changes.
1) Varangians don't upgrade to Manglavitai;
and 2) Autokrator Rhomaion isn't locked behind an event or reform, even though it seems like it should be. I can just switch something (like Autocracy) out for Autokrator Rhomaion. Not sure if this one's a bug or weird WAD, but it feels unintended.
