Type-43 River Dragon APC

Beskrivning
The dark cabin stank of saltwater and mud. A couple of bulbs in the ceiling cast a moody, amber light into the room. To say the light “filled” the room would be wrong; It was just enough to make out the several individuals sharing the cramped space with Mikey. Rifles were tucked under the benches, various other packs and tools fastened down with straps and velcro.

“Scope, I’ve got a blip on two… looks like five-hundred meters… north-northwest.” Pit’s comms crackled out from oversized headphones being worn by the Marine currently on Scope.

“Copy, I see it Pit” returned Scope. She was hunched over a computer screen, un-moving like a gargoyle and only her silhouette visible in the poor light. Her pale face was illuminated by a blue-green glow coming off the screen, and her arms held the controls like wrought iron. Mikey hadn’t seen so much as a twitch from her for around forty-five minutes. If she was breathing he couldn’t tell.

Pit and Scope both had a view of the vehicle’s sensors, and they were supposed to inform each other of any marks they saw. Pit had the temperament of a rabbit, and had been making calls to Scope every two or three minutes. The conversation had been a dull back-and-forth regarding every odd bump-in-the-night, and it had long faded into the background. Just featureless noise now.

They had been moving at a constant rate of speed for two or three hours. The river gave them little opportunity to change their course, or at least it hadn’t according to Scope. She was the only one aside from Pit presently capable of looking into the night which surrounded them. Just scanning back and forth, looking for anything living.

“Scope, something just showed up on my screen. It’s in the river with us.” With that everyone in the cabin tensed a bit.

“I’d say… Seven-hundred meters? No, six-fifty- I-it’s gonna be on us soon!” Panic entered Pit’s voice.

“I see it! Terrain's obstructing my vision Pit, hold on” Scope replied, stock-still as always. “Be ready to make for the riverbank!” A quality entered her voice that snapped the others out of their trances.

“Two-hundred… there! Scope I’m aiming for the bank northwest, I think we can make it up and over. READY!”

“Everybody ready!” Scope screamed as she finally shifted her position, so as to be in a comfortably firing position.

“CONTACT!”
Not even waiting a heartbeat after she screamed, she let-loose with the 20mm mount atop the vehicle, the cabin quaking with the force. The Marines felt the vehicle lurch sideways as Pit accelerated towards the part of the river he had described. The engines screamed as the wheels began spinning in preparation for landfall. Mikey looked around in the chaos and saw the other Marine’s clutching at the straps hanging from the ceiling of the cabin, suddenly remembering to do the same. A moment later the vehicle impacted the sand of the riverbank and the wheels engaged the terrain. A violent rumbling joined the cacophonous array of noise as the craft’s eight wheels found purchase on the ground and pulled it up and onto dry land.

Scope hadn’t stopped firing for even a moment, still frantically tracking whatever had fallen upon them so suddenly. One of the rear-seated Marines pressed a button and the cabin door flew open, revealing an enemy ship in the river which they had just passed. Had Pit not brought them around on dry land, they would’ve been trapped with nowhere to go. Scope fired a flare from the mount and it hung above the river-boat, illuminating about a dozen figures running along its deck. Tracers flew towards the silhouettes, who in-turn fell to the ground for cover. The same Marine who had opened the door took the opportunity to fire at the now visible combatants. He could barely hold his rifle with the way Pit was driving along the uneven terrain.

They dipped below a large enough hill that they could no longer see the river or the enemy vessel. Scope had finally stopped firing, and had slumped back in her seat, heaving with adrenaline. The same Marine as before closed the door, and turned to his buddy.

“Man you see that? I let 'em have it!”

“Like hell you did!” replied the other. “You didn’t even hit the boat!”

This APC is built with watermod in mind, but there's not much I can about the fact that Ballast is annoying to put on builds. Pasting it in creative will likely partly fill the ballasts. When testing the vehicle, make sure any tanks grouped in "Ballast Tanks" are *empty*.

It works below at or around 1.5 Buoyancy, but I did most of my testing with Buoyancy 2.

#8 in Hotbar 1 swaps Terrain modes. Blue lights mean you're good for swimming, Orange lights mean you're good for driving. Try to swap modes at the right time.

#9 in Hotbar 1 swaps Power mode. If the exhaust is on, you're burning Hydrogen with the 2 Hydrogen engines, and the batteries are OFF. If the exaust if off, the engines are as well, and the batteries are draining.
