Kara II Class Cruiser

Built as a follow-on and improved version of the Kara-class large anti-submarine cruisers, the Kara II-class was formed of six surface warfare and AAW focused cruisers equipped with the new SA-N-6 with the same mount design that would ultimately find their way onto the Slava-class. These ships were built in the late 1970s into the early 1980s and were envisioned as escorts for the Chelyabinsk-class attack carriers and Marshal Zhukov Class battleships.


Okay a bit of a shorter description than I usually make, but it got the point across, the Kara II was envisioned as a bridge between the Karas and the later Slava Class, equipped with updated anti-ship missiles, SA-N-6 in rotary VLS as is found on the Slava, and SA-N-9 VLS aft in place of the former SA-N-3 launcher. These ships serve as excellent AAW escorts and bring quite the punch to area defence.
