Description
This mod is in a VERY early stage of development.

Golden Dominion introduces an exciting new gameplay experience in Crusader Kings III, allowing you to play as republics!

Rise to prominence within the Republic.


1. NEW: Communal Republics
Communal Republics are now playable, letting you rule the republic itself instead of a dynasty. Power shifts through councils and elections, and survival depends on balancing rival factions within the commune. Success means keeping the state stable and united, not securing your family’s legacy.

Merchant Family Elections: Even lowborn characters can be played in a Republic. Unlock Republican Legacies with Republican Prestige accrued over time. Balance the five factions representing the republican demograph.

2. Play as a Landless Patrician
For the first time, you can experience Crusader Kings III as a landless character. As a Patrician, your influence is built through wealth and prestige, rather than controlling land. You may not hold a county or duchy, but your merchant family wields power through gold, diplomacy, and strategic alliances within the Republic.

Unique Patrician Gameplay: While landless, you remain a crucial player within the Republic, using your wealth to grow influence and maintain your family’s status.

3. Merchant Family
You may not control land, but you control your family's wealth. Build your fortune through trade deals, favors, and clever investments. The better you manage your family’s resources, the greater your influence becomes in the Republic.

Family Fortune Management: Manage the wealth of your family, ensuring your heirs inherit not just gold, but the means to survive and thrive as patricians.

4. Conflict with the Narentine Pirates
As a powerful merchant family in Venice, you will need to navigate the treacherous waters of the Adriatic Sea, where the infamous Narentine pirates wreak havoc on Venetian trade routes. In the earliest bookmark, Golden Dominion introduces a unique conflict between Venice and the Narentine pirates, a constant threat to your family’s wealth and the Republic's dominance. Will you support military action against them or enlist mercenaries to protect your convoys?


  • Trade Expansion
    More trade events, anti-piracy, mechanics, rivalries between different plutocracies.
  • More Events
    Right now there are not that many events and I would like to add more.
  • Political Schemes
    Schemes between merchant families to exert power.
  • Contracts for Adventurers and Merchant Families
    I'd like to add some special contracts available for adventurers in republican realms.
  • More Domicile Buildings
    There's a limited amount of domicile buildings and I would like to add more.
  • Vassal Contracts
  • Activities


  • Can you update the mod?
    If there's a new update I'll be updating the mod as soon as I get the oppurtunity. Currently compatible with: 1.17.1
  • Is this mod compatible with X mod?
    If you put this mod at the bottom of the load order, it might work, but no features are integrated with other mods.
  • Can you make a compatch for X?
    Right now, I'm focusing on development rather than compatibility with other mods.
  • I have found a bug.
    Great, just report it in the comments. Make sure you don't have other mods loaded.

the single best mod in this games history, I have roughly 1300 hours. 90% of which consists of modded gameplay. I shit you not, this is the best thing i have played

Just wanted to say great mod on my first run. Used More buildings+(extra special building on map) more interactive vassal. Was able to be re elected. Decided to try a visby run from tribal to merchant works fine. i adopt republic ways all good. Now no matter what the game will crash right after election. This is regardless i start as pisa, Genoa, Luni, Or even create the republic in drubrovnic. Election come game will crash

did another run with just a very few not changing core mods and still does the bug, even earlier than before

tried shutting it off and works, but it happens on a strange date, two run, last bookmark, first run tried to make an adventure pg and conquered some land, turned to republic by commands to get communal, conquered a duchy as normal, at 29th january 1195 stops working. second run same but as custom leader for city of milan, stoped in 1205 or smt like that. if you need the modlist i can give it to you

@Alberto D'Annunzio, I've not been able to reproduce that bug. Have you tried turning Golden Dominion off and see if it persists?

With this mod the time stop flowing but the game is interactable, or at least, looks alive but can't even interact with nothing. i play with other mods also but tried turning them off and this still happens.
