Update of Comigo's Adequate Cooking Expanded for 1.5 and with explicit compatibility with Grains and Brewing and VPE - More Plants. Explicit permission to update has not been sought, as the original seems abandoned -- if the author would like me to take this down/alter it/pass it back to them I will do so.

Changes from the original:
  • version number
  • wheat grain item is only generated if GAB not loaded (GAB already adds one)
  • added GAB grains to the flour recipes
  • removes GAB's flour recipe if loaded (don't need two)
  • increased the volumes of raw ingredients processed at once
  • work amounts tweaked accordingly
  • flour yields edited in line with the balance of GAB : quernstone and electric mill both produce 150% yield. Electric mill is still much faster.
  • sugarcane -> sugary juice recipe moved from the butcher table to the mills for simplicity's sake
  • if Vanilla Factions Expanded - Tribals is loaded, crushing spot requires Agriculture tech
  • added grains for the VPE More Plants cereal crops that lacked them, unless GAB is already replacing them
  • VPE More Plants cereal crops now drop grains instead of flour

A patch/addon for Vanilla Cooking Expanded that makes flour and sugarcane production logical, close to how it is or was done in real world, and thus is similar to what existed in RimCuisine. No more picking fallen flour and sugar from soil!

Changes from VCE
  • Wheat does not disintegrate into flour when gathered; instead, wheat grains are gathered. Grains can be used in cooking as is, similar to rice, or milled or crushed into flour. Grain is also edible by animals.
  • Sugarcane does not disintegrate per se, creating sugarcane stalks.
  • Flour stack size increased to 150 per cell.
  • Sugar's nutrition value set to 0.05, so it can be used as a condiment where nutrition amount is required instead of quantity.
  • Young wheat is green, not golden.
  • Flour's texture is changed to paper bags with flour.

Production chains
  • Sugar: gather stalks from sugarcane, get sugarcane juice from them at crushing spot, boil the juice over any stove or a campfire.
  • Flour: gather grains (wheat, corn, rice), grind them at an electric mill or crush with a quernstone or crushing spot to get flour.

New Buildings
Primitive crushing spot
40 woody, stony or metallic stuff.
A place with a smooth club where people crush grains into flour or turn sugar into pulp and juice. 50% efficiency.

Quernstone
60 stony. Requires stonecutting research.
A slightly better place to crush grains, but not sugarcane. 100% efficiency. and sugarcane. Flour at 150% efficiency.

Electric mill
120 steel, 2 components. Requires electricity.
A large device that quickly turns grain into flour. 200% efficiency. and processes sugarcane. Flour at 150% efficiency.

Buildings from these mods automatically form kitchens, but the buildings themselves receive a work speed debuff due to [ not in workshop ].
I believe this is because most of these buildings inherit from [ BenchBase ], but do not declare [ workTableRoomRole ] and [ workTableNotInRoomRoleFactor ], causing them to be treated as general production buildings.
Therefore, it would be best to give them special <building> values like vanilla stew:

<workTableRoomRole>Kitchen</workTableRoomRole>
<workTableNotInRoomRoleFactor>0.8</workTableNotInRoomRoleFactor>

Or remove their room requirements:

I'm having a number of issues with Seeds Please and patched plants -- I think the problem is at their end, but I don't think it's being updated currently. I'll see what I can do to work around it -- thanks for bringing it up.

It works great when used with SeedsPlease: Lite Redux. There is only one small problem:
The barley in VPE - More Plants cannot extract seeds.
I guess this is because barley has two products at the same time. Hay, as an additional product, affected the program. Barley seeds exist normally in the game, but barley grains are not on the list of raw materials in the "Extract Seeds" list.
If this problem can be fixed, it will be perfect
