PlayerVox (PVOX)

Give your players a voice!

Ever felt that Garry's Mod lacked that immersive battlefield chatter? PlayerVox (PVOX) brings dynamic voice callouts to your server, similar to popular games like Battlefield. Players will hear each other's characters react to in-game events, adding a whole new layer of communication and realism.

The system works by playing sound files associated with specific in-game actions. Custom modules can be created to define these actions and the corresponding voice lines.

Features:

Dynamic Voice Callouts: Players will hear character voice lines triggered by in-game actions.

Customizable Modules: Server admins can create custom modules to define new callouts and actions.

Randomized Sounds: Multiple sound files per action allow for varied responses.

Built-in Modules: Includes several ready-to-use modules.

Callout Menu: (Hopefully) A menu to choose custom callouts.

Radial Menu: A radial menu is now available.

Server Module UI: A new UI for checking server modules.

Closed Captioning: A system designed to make communication easier.

Player Model Binding: Automatically assign voice modules based on player models.

Blacklisting: Admins can blacklist specific modules.

Configuration Options: ConVars for enabling/disabling features, controlling volume, and more.

Available Player Actions (Built-in Modules):

Here's a list of the default actions that can trigger voice lines:

reload: When a player reloads their weapon.

enemy_spotted: When a player aims at an enemy.

enemy_killed: When a player kills an enemy.

take_damage: When a player takes damage (with a configurable chance).

no_ammo: When a player runs out of ammo.

confirm_kill: When a player confirms a kill (e.g., shooting a dead body).

death: When a player dies.

on_ready: When a player spawns.

pickup_weapon: When a player picks up a weapon.

inspect: When the 'F' key is pressed.

take_damage_in_vehicle: When a player takes damage while in a vehicle.

[ENTITY]_spotted: When a specific entity type is spotted (requires PVoxSpecifyEntity to be enabled).

[ENTITY]_killed: When a specific entity type is killed (requires PVoxSpecifyEntity to be enabled).

damage_[HITGROUP]: When a specific body part is shot (requires PVoxLocalizeDamage to be enabled).

switchtaunt: When a player switches their weapon.

frag_out: When the player throws a grenade.

pickup_item: When the player picks up an item.

nice_shot: When a player's NPC kills another NPC and a nearby player is friendly to the killer.

Using the PVox Radial Menu

To access the PVox radial callout menu, you first need to bind it to a key via the console:

bind <key> +pvox_open_callout

Substitute <key> with your desired key (e.g., x).

Once bound, simply press that key. Note: The menu will only display if your active PVox module actually contains callouts. If not, pressing the key won't show anything.

Changelog:

v0.0.4: Potential API upgrade for easier sound pack creation with AutoCreate().

v10.0: Sound packs now have descriptions and "print names." Lots of bug fixes and a new radial menu.

Added descriptions for every stock PVox.

Added a new, modern UI for checking server modules.

Fixed conflicts between viewpop, viewbunch, and dsteps!

How to make a PVOX pack (The New Way)

Can we get more actions? I really want to make a PVOX pack as i find it easier to do than with TFA's VOX but there's just not enough elaborate actions to assign sounds to. With TFA it's quite plentiful especially with the "extra callouts" addon. Aswell as being able to add a "delay" to each action so they don't always spam voicelines.

@GabeXx546 Understood. Thanks for the feedback. I'll get to working on that soon.

I really like this mod! I like its structure and implementation way better than TFA vox, making a pack doesn't suck and actually picking one in game is streamlined. I like that it's per player instead of per model. The only thing preventing me from fully switching over is the lack of low health sounds and breathing sounds. I don't know what goes into mod making so I don't know how hard this would be, but this mod is amazing and simple to use!

@Dust Rathard NP! if you have any questions or something catastrophically breaks (or it still doesn't work) let me know. v10 is now out in the wild so do give your feedback :)

@Dust Rathard: Good news - the long-awaited fix is complete. I'm releasing it today, incorporating these fixes alongside several modern improvements.

When it comes to the camera, I was also using the two mods together with Viewbob Viewpunch and when dsteps + pvox was active there was no bob to speak of, but its probably the same issue as the one that causes the footsteps to be gone

@Dust Rathard Alright, I'll look into it. The camera thing is strange and since this is primarily an audio mod Idk about THAT, but I'll see what I can do with the DSteps compatibilty

This mod breaks DSteps (and probably other footstep mods too) as no footstep sounds play and the camera does not move while both are active, even after disabling every footstep option in PVOX (every option in general in fact) nothing changes, only after pvox is removed does it work, I can't live without dsteps nor can I live without pvox, would you mind looking in to it pleaseee, I love your mod and want to keep using it
