An unofficial yet highly regarded shader mod, made by Rodrigo. Now maintained by us :)


Abstract

Rodrigo's Mod, when unencrypted, redistributed one file from SpaceEngine's original shaders. This is more than likely why it was removed. This file has been stripped.

Remove the cache when installing or removing this mod.


Features

We are currently restructuring Rodrigo's Mod Redistributed. While this is happening, we will make a feature list of the finished files that better explains what RMR does, as this has been suggested many times. Currently, not all features are listed here, only features from files that have been restructured, small tweaks are not listed either.

Palettes
RMR now allows palettes to alter the terrain generation of some worlds. The "Bottom" biome is used for this, the following list shows what is determined by it. Sp_ce's Palettes Reimagined is compatible with these features.
  • Aquarias: Bottom.alpha = 0.001 makes Tholin Patches apply to selenas using this palette, and makes Driven Darkened hemispheres the color of the Bottom biome. The Snow biome color is used for ice "caps" and the Ice biome color is used for the ice on europalikes. This condition may change in the future.

Selenas
(airless, infrabaric worlds)
Special selena types are added with RMR that appear under specific circumstances:
  • Enceladuslikes: Selenas are changed into this type when these conditions are met: (cracksOctaves > 0.0) && (canyonsMagn > 0.52) && (mareFreq < 1.7) && (cracksFreq < 0.6). This type of world generates with white cells with (typically) blue edges. They will be reworked in future versions.
  • Europalikes: Selenas are changed into this type when these conditions are met: (cracksOctaves > 0.0) && (canyonsMagn > 0.52) && (mareFreq < 1.7) && (cracksFreq >= 0.6). This type of world generates with suppressed terrain height, lower crater density, and an icy surface covered in many cracks. The surface takes on the objects palettes "Ice" biome color, with its cracks being either its vary color or white.
  • Europalikeness: Europalikes have differing europalikeness depending on their riftsSin paramater. For riftsSin < 6.0, europalikeness = 1.0, for riftsSin > 8.0, europalikeness = 0.0, and between these are transitionary values. Europalikeness determines how much terrain height is suppressed (from 70% at 1.0, to 40% at 0.0) and how much crater density is decreased. Very high crater densities are much less affected than lower densities.

RMR features for selenas of any type are listed in the following list.
  • Tholin Patches: Similar to Charons Mordor Macula. This is a new feature exclusive to RMR in combination with SPR (or another palette mod compatible with this feature). When a selena uses an applicable palette (see Palette feature list), patches of darkened tholins will generate rarely on it. Most selenas will not have any on their surface. Their color is the same as the color of the Bottom biome of a palette.
  • Driven Darkening: Moons of planets with rings may have a darker hemisphere. In RMR, this hemisphere is darkened with a greenish tholin color similar to the moons of Saturn, rather than black as in vanilla SE. Using an applicable palette (see Palette feature list) with will use the color of the Bottom biome of a palette instead of this greenish color. Driven darkened hemisphere with drivenDarkening > 0.55 now also have elevated terrain depending on the amount of darkening.
  • Mares: Now generate with less circular rims, allowing for slightly more irregular shaped mares. Features at the bottom of mares are now only partially suppressed, rather than fully flattened. This may be improved in the future.
  • Equatorial Ridges: Now generate slightly more realistically. Vanilla ridges generate with a very obvious noise function, whereas RMR ridges now generate as a ridge inspired by Iapetus. They will be further improved in the future.
  • Ice "Caps": Selenas now generate with ice on steep slopes when generating with snow caps, rather than simply having snow applied evenly to their poles. The color of the snow is now also determined by the "Snow" biome color of the palette being used for the object.
  • Smooth Height Min/Max: Rarely, objects generate with height maps that exceed their maximum height, which can cause jarring flat terrain. In RMR this is effect reduced, where this flat terrain is smoothed considerably.

The coastline of rocky planets is too fragmented, which is a bit unrealistic.
Some planets have thick clouds.

unlisted until I can run SE on NixOS/Unix. I am not proud of the current state of this mod and cannot update it. The source code was meant to be converted to Rust but I cannot without SE working. So, if you are still subscribed, congrats. I'm done. Feel free to redistribute according to the license of all of my mods.
