Introduction

Hello! This is a large project I started a while ago that I feel has hit a notable milestone. Currently I have made progress with Empire, Dwarfs, and some for Chaos and Norsca. This project is ongoing and will continue to be updated
as I make more progress, eventually culminating in updating every texture for units from the first game to now.

WHY

During the transfer from game 1 -> 2 -> 3 the textures had a noticeable drop in quality and increased saturation. Details were lost, Normal maps even suffered. I am taking these textures and using photoshop and paintnet to manually update the textures by combining WH1 diffuse and specular, as well as even adding detail that was missed originally or that might improve the texture overall. CA has done some textures on their own, I have opted to not update those textures (Empire Lord, Boris Todbringer, etc)

Results

At first I didn't expect a noticeable change, but after looking at Franz and Archaon, I knew this would be a fruitful endeavor. The textures look a little darker and more detailed. Franz texture sheet somehow got smaller from WH1 to WH3 for instance. It really helps bring back the grimdark look from the first game a little that was lost. The textures from WH2 don't seem to suffer from this issue, at least not that I noticed. I am also fixing broken alphas, textures and other oddities I find.

I removed them from this pack for compatibility reasons. If you use Hooveric or other reskin mods, just subscribe to this mod and not the linked fixes above.

ca did regen the textures from a source so they arent entirely blurry, but they didnt add new details or restore lost details

I guess I just couldn't wrap my head at how little CA is doing, that after so long when they wrote they updated skins that people asked for ages to push to the WH3 level, all they did was to just increase the ♥♥♥♥ while keeping the textures blurry, old, and outdated without bothering to apply any of the new furr/hair.

I was just hoping that there was something more that my eyes couldn't find, some glimpes of hope that suggests it's just one step they did to prepare the ground for more.

I don't understand what you are asking. They literally just increased the size of the texture sheets
1024 up to 2048, the textures are the same otherwise. They have the base textures so there is a bit more detail in fine things like hair or fur that i can't do, but I'm messing with them to try to convert the ones I did to the new sizes.

So what does it mean? is this a lay out for better optimisation for potentially increasing textures (data base pipe line efficiency)? or is it just the same textures spread wider?
