Glad you solved the issue with copying. The devs should be made aware of it though, it definitely doesn't sound like something they implemented willingly.
It looks like this is a pretty undesirable bug you might have uncovered there, if indeed there's an inconsistency of the copy function when it comes to self-heating buildings (if it's not that, I'm afraid I have no clue what the cause could be). Perhaps it would be worth letting the devs know about it.
leftbehind, if I understand what you're pointing at, I'm not sure either. I would have thought it was supposed to be a small attic window (often there was some storage space under the roofs), but from looking at the buildings I used for reference - some of which are renovated - it was covered up with a sort of grid, instead of being a glass window. Usually metallic, but I opted for this wooden texture that makes it look more like a window shutter.
