Decades on from the collapse of the Soviet Union, Europe once again finds itself in a time of peril. Domestically, many countries have been challenged by the immigration crisis, brain drains, the rise of far-right and populist ideologies and more. On the international stage, an increasingly irredentist and authoritarian Russia seeks to reclaim it's former glory through territorial conquest and subversive means.



And between it all, is Ukraine. A country that has struggled with corruption and oligarchic clans since it's independence in 1991, where repeated changes in government have brought little to no improvements to the quality of life. But in as Ukraine enters 2014, things seem to be changing.

Large protests against Viktor Yanukovych and the corrupt “Party of Regions” have gained traction in Maidan Square, Kyiv, with both the protestors' resolve and the government's crackdown growing day-by-day. The Russian bear looks westward with prying eyes, and with the Pax Americana withering away, the European order belongs to he willing to seize it.
