Based on the work of the incredible Ancient Empires team, we are proud to finally announce the release of Classical Empires!

We realised there was so much potential in this community, we harnessed it to push the limits of what we thought possible in Total War, during a time we had all given up hope Creative Assembly would deliver the historical total war that was promised to us since Rome 2 (and never delivered)

With this in mind, we have done a plethora of changes not just from vanilla Attila Total War, but from Ancient Empires itself. The goal was to add depth of experience to the player, while simultaneously removing exploits that are all to familiar to the community, and ultimately ruin the game for the player.

Vastly speaking, there are two sets of changes we did to accomplish this: campaign related, and battle related. Each are considerable.

Future plans include the release of custom maps, the adding of new settlements in the campaign map, new campaign scripts, further refined battle scripting.

Hey guys! Sorry for the absence: I was focusing on other Total War games to rediscover the essence of what made Total War so great, and the love of modding for it to keep that vision alive and thriving! The catalyst was my mod folder getting constantly corrupted to take a hiatus.

To inaugurate my upcoming showcase videos, using Rome as the campaign faction, I am releasing an update to the faction Rome:

Army Traditions, weirdly having negative buffs, now give Roman armies significant bonuses in the campaign map to mimick the logistical and training supremacy of the Roman war machine:

It feels great to be back, as 2026 will be a great year for our work!

The changes made to AE with the 3.0 Update will for the most part carry over to CE, e.g. all the crash-/bugfixes or the new maps, however both mods will be developed further so the player may choose which one they enjoy better. Also Garv (CE lead Dev) and UMCenturion have different ideas of what the "best" AE experience looks like, so there´s that.

@ www.alex-hasi AE and CE will stay separate mods, although we are cooperating on most things. AE had been abandoned for a couple years now, however about 6-8 months ago UMCenturion, one of the OG Devs returned to at least make AE playable, e.g. fixing all the crashes and other bugs if possible. That idea developed into AE 3.0, which will also include plenty new stuff like 2 new factions, new maps, new UI etc.

AE and CE are basically different Ideas based on the same concept. CE majorly overhauls the AI (campaign & battle), rebalances unit stats, and switched from 4TPY to 12TPY. You can read more about that in our Discord [discord.com] here [discord.com].

This is just a general question since I see that you work on Ancient empires as well (and there is even talk about AE3). Will this mod here be worked on/finished in the future or is the goal to go back to the original AE? Or maybe even merge them? Or will they stay seperate projects? And what would you say ist the main difference between these mods?

mod freezes and crashes upon getting into menu screen after starting it. unmplayable, and yes everything is loaded in the correct order.

It's a known issue, Centurion an me went through the custom maps a couple months back and noticed this issue with a lot of them.
If you select Rome on the map instead of the drop down menu it should give you a working version (same for any other map).
Sadly it is nigh impossible for us to fix any maps that are broken and cannot be played with the trick mentioned above, as we are lacking the original files for most of them, so we would have to completely rebuild any broken map from the ground up which we simply don't have the time or manpower to do atm. :(
Be assured we will try our best to replace the broken maps with time tho.
