FS E444 'Tartaruga' Locomotive

ITALIANO

La E444 è stata la prima locomotiva costruita con il concetto di alta velocità.
È, essenzialmente, il prodotto finale dell'esperienza che gli ingegneri fs hanno ottenuto con locomotive come E424, E636 ed E646.
Come tutti i classici rotabili elettrici delle FS, è una locomotiva ad azionamento reostatico (con il reostato suddiviso in più sezioni, per una migliore erogazione della potenza).
I motori erano FS T550 nella pre serie, T750 in tutti gli altri.
Questa locomotiva è servita anche da "laboratorio" per molte prove nel corso degli anni:

- La locomotiva n. 005 è stata la prima ad azionamento elettronico (nel 1972). Era un veicolo "beta test" per verificare se i chopper potevano funzionare con quel tipo di motori ed il 3000 V . L'esperimento fu un successo: la potenza della locomotiva aumentò del 25%, con uno sforzo di trazione migliore.
- Alcune unità del gruppo standard furono convertite in E447: il rapporto di trasmissione venne allungato, permettendo il superamento dei 200 km/h di velocità massima. Questo esperimento non è stato un grande successo, a causa di problemi di sforzo di trazione. Il reale intento era quello di preservare i motori, abbassandone i regimi di rotazione.
- Due unità del gruppo hanno ricevuto una gestione elettronica del reostato, utilizzando chopper in serie allo stesso.
- a partire dal 1990 tutte le locomotive sono state riqualificate con alcune nuove apparecchiature elettriche e nuove cabine.

Il 2020 è stato l'ultimo anno operativo per queste locomotive. Sono già in fase di demolizione. 2 unità sono già state restaurate ed hanno ricevuto la loro livrea storica degli anni '90. Un'altra locomotiva sarà riportata al suo aspetto originale.

The E444 was the first locomotive built with the concept of high speeds.
It is, essentially, the final product of the experience that fs engineers achieved with locomotives such as E424, E636 and E646.
Like all the old electric vehicles of FS , it is rheostatic driven locomotive with the rheostat subdivided in more section, for a better power erogation.
Engines were FS T550 in the pre series, T750 in all the others.
This locomotive was also the "laboratory" for many tests during the years:

- The locomotive n. 005 was the first Electronic italian locomotive (in 1972). It was a "beta test" vehicle to check if choppers could work with those kind of engines and 3000V DC. The exemperiment was a success: the locomotive power increased by 25%, with a better tractive effort.
- Some units of the standard group were converted into E447: it was a very long tail cogs locomotive, able to go over 200km/h max speed. This experiment was not a big success, due to tractive effort problems
- Two units of the group received an electronic rheostat management, using choppers in series with rheostat.
- starting from 1990, all the locomotives were refurbished with some electrical new equipment and a new front Cab.

2020 was the last operative year for those locomotives. They're already being demolished. 2 units have been already preserved for historic intents and have received their historic 90's livery. Another locomotive will be restored to its original aspect.
