Operation Sunstar

During the late night of 22 november the No. 9 British Commandos took part in the raid of Batterie de Tournebride.

The Houlgate battery (also called the Battery de Tournebride) was a German artillery battery constructed close to the French village of Houlgate in the Calvados department in the Lower Normandy region. Built into the top of a 300 ft (91 m) cliff, the bunker complex was created to protect the western bank of the mouth of the River Seine and was 10 mi (16 km) east of the Normandy landing beach Sword which it shelled.

The Houlgate battery was considered a serious threat to the landing beaches.

~ Map Info:

Houlgate is my third map for Post Scriptum and will feature a large beach landing.

Invasion layer: Sappers must destroy the first 3 exits of the beach. After that the Commando's must take the city of Houlgate itself. Next are 6 Flak 88's that must be taken out. 3 are at the Houlgate citadel, and the other 3 are located at WN17. When the Flak's are neutralised you must secure a small town called Varaville. Good luck!

Just to be clear, the map is 'based' on the Houlgate beach area. My main goal was to make a beach landing that isn't another omaha beach.

I'm a bit torn on this map.
On the one hand it is super fun to play, but on the other it has some design decisions that make me scratch my head.
The most glaring one is that the map has North and South reversed.
When you look at the real Houlgate you'll see quickly that the shore is actually in the North.
So this map seems to have it's bearings mixed up. This is also apparent when you look at where the sun is in the sky.

The next is that you added the Dinant Fortress into the map. There is, and was no stronghold of that sort near Houlgate in reality. Instead the town has a very recognizable old Grand Hotel.
Which is missing on the map.

So in terms of realism, it is not exactly an accurate map.
