On April 16, 2005, Matt Hughes and Frank Trigg would meet in the MGM Grand at UFC 52 for the second time in their careers, with the then-Welterweight champion, Hughes having submitted Trigg the first time around.

Trigg had opened up the fight with a knee below the belt and poured on the pressure, punching away and nearly managing to return the favor to Hughes from their first bout by going for a rear naked choke. However, Hughes would not submit, and instead, reversed position on the ground, lifting Trigg up with an immense show of strength before running the full distance across the Octagon, slamming his foe down. From there, Hughes would control the fight and would manage to lock in his own rear naked choke for the win to finish one of the most exciting fights in UFC history.

The Hughes Running Slam does considerable damage, both to stamina and spirit and has the potential to score a Power CRITICAL, so it might be best to avoid dropping into a sprawl against someone equipped with this one.
